The first-ever, career-spanning documentary on the life and times of legendary metal icon Ronnie James Dio comes to GSFF!
“DIO: Dreamers Never Die” delves deep into the singer’s incredible rise from a ‘50s doo-wop crooner to his early rock days in Elf and Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, to replacing Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath, and finally cementing his rock star status with his own band, DIO.
The film incorporates never-before-seen footage and personal photos, as well as offering intimate scenes with his closest peers, family, and friends, as they bring viewers inside the life of one of rock and roll’s true heroes and one of the most beloved figures in rock.
In addition to the feature-length film, this special event will also include a hand-picked selection of outtakes from the cutting room floor, creating an experience that is exclusive only to fans in attendance.

THE FIRST ALL-ACCESS DOCUMENTARY ON THE LIFE AND TIMES OF FRANK ZAPPA
There has yet to be a film about the life and times of the brilliant and genuinely maverick musician Frank Zappa. Director Alex Winter and his team have crafted a documentary from over a thousand hours of mostly unseen material from Zappa’s personal vault. ZAPPA is an expansive and intimate portrait of an extraordinary artist who was also fully engaged with the turbulent politics of his day.
Frank Zappa was not only a creative genius, but also a great and eloquent thinker who articulated the madness of his times with extraordinary clarity and wit. A legitimate maverick who lived and worked amongst other extraordinary people in historic times.
ZAPPA is not a retro trip into the past or a conventional biopic, but the dramatic saga of a great American artist and thinker; a film that sets out to convey the scope of Zappa’s prodigious and varied creative output, and the breadth of his extraordinary personal and political life.

Here comes DEATH's probing and pulsing rock doc, DEATH BY METAL, pulling back the palm fronds of DEATH's origins in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and latching a narrative hook into the headstrong Chuck Schuldiner juggernaut for fifteen gratifying if sometimes frustrating years.
DEATH were supposed to absorb entire planets. Then suddenly, Chuck is just gone, and the lights go out. The formula for movies about bands dictates that victory is seized from the jaws of mortality in the final act. But this documentary itself joins reissues, partial reunion tours, and an international reawakening as part of a decade-long ascent for DEATH to its proper place of high dominion.
Before the screening comes a special exclusive preview of the documentary on greek band Nightfall and a Q&A with the director Antoine de Montremy and the band's frontman, Efthimis Karadimas. The film is currently in production and will make its World Premiere at GSFF IN 2023.
